The Sound

lyrics

He was a boy, she was a girl. She was a failure, he was a fraud, and together they felt cheated and ignored.

But the bad luck's back again. I guess the press must have followed them.

Cut and paste and fake those takes and they'll never know.
Pan and mask and tune those tracks and they'll never know.
Fix and mix and secret tricks.
The scene needs sales but the world prefers a scandal.

(That's the sound.)

She gave her best but it wasn't enough. What the critics miss the cancer hits, now his mics pick up coughing over chords.
He's mixing symphonies but there's blood on the keys.

Cut and paste and fake those takes and they'll never know.
Pan and mask and tune those tracks and they'll never know.
Fix and mix and secret tricks.
The scene needs sales but the world prefers a scandal.

They heard that sound and they said it was perfection. Then the story broke and broke their reputation. But the sound didn't change with the revelation. I'd buy those records, but they won't reprint them. His motives went unquestioned but you kinda get them. He had the grace to wait till she died to explain the creation. And he died a fraud with the love he felt unspoken. Just a sound the ones he abhorred confessed was perfection. Some couples don't do rejection. Yeh I heard, some couples don't do rejection.
